December 2012 : Deadline for Hyderabad ORR Completion
With Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr. K Rosaiah inaugurating works for Phase II of the prestigious Hyderabad Outer Ring Road(ORR) project, the city is all set to have its fully access controlled expressway with the state- of-the integrated transport system ready by December,2012.
The phase II of the project covers a distance of 33.3 kms of the expressway, connecting Shamirpet in the north to Pedda Amberpet in the east on Vijayawada highway(NH9). The total cost of the phase II is estimated at Rs. 1,100 Crore and is funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency(JPIA).
The total length of the Hyderabad outer ring road(ORR) is 158 Kms, of which the first phase connecting Gachibowli to Rajiv Gandhi International Aiport (RGIA) is almost completed, with few stretches still being given final touches. The work on stretch connecting Samshabad to Pedda Amberpet is still under progress and is expected to be completed by June 2010. The ORR stretch from Narsingi to Shamirpet via patancheru and Bachupally is expected to be completed byDecember 2011.
Once the ORR project is completed the focus will be on developing the radial roads connecting the inner ring road (IRR) with the ORR, the work on these radial roads is going at snails pace. Work on some key roads like Tolichowki to Narsingi is progressing nowhere, another road connecting PVR expressway and inner expressway to Appa Junction is still under work-in progress stage.
The ORR project, and Hyderabad metro project are very essential to meet the growing traffic challenges in the Greater Hyderabad, though the development projects have taken back seat due to the recession and the ongoing Telangana agitations, the efforts of HMDA in getting the various developmental works like flyovers, PVR expressway and ORR project move forward are commendable indeed.
